Heist Slot

As Heist loads up on your screen you’ll be introduced to the main characters: pro bank robber Neil Quailand and the detective he has eluded for so many years, Albert Kolwaski. The audio does drag on a little as the reels warm up, but the long and the short of it is that Quailand is planning his biggest heist yet: busting a bank vault containing more than 9 million pounds in cash.

This time, after seven years of hunting Quailand down, Kolwaski is determined to get his man. Even though Quailand is the best in the business, slick, professional, and ruthless, this time he needs your help. Guide him through the game’s special features and bonus rounds and help choose which method he uses to crack the safe. If you succeed, whatever’s inside will be yours to keep.

Symbols

The reel symbols in Heist feature the story’s two main characters as well as equipment Quailand will need to complete the job. All the symbols display some 3D animation when triggered in a payline. In addition to the special symbols that trigger the games special and animated features (we’ll talk more about those later), you’ll find the following symbols on the reels:

  • Neil Quailand looking determined and putting on his black leather gloves as he gets to work
  • Albert Kolwaski on Quailand’s trail with shot gun in hand
  • A huge bag of diamonds spilling out onto the floor – Quailand’s prize
  • Architect’s blue prints of the bank vault
  • A sack full of wads of cash (9 million pounds?)
  • A heavy firearm used by Quailand to shoot through doors
  • A keypad lock which can only be opened by entering the correct code – or can it?
  • A stop watch in Quailand’s leather-gloved hand

Wagers and jackpots

This is a three reel online slot (making it smaller than its fellow Betsoft game, The Slotfather, also featured in the Free Slots Gangster and Mafia Slots section) with 30 paylines. You have the option of betting up to 5 credits per line, and you can wager in coin denominations ranging from 0.05 to 1.00 in £/$/€ – depending on whether or not you’re playing for real money, of course. Real-money players will be hoping to spin a maximum jackpot of 60 coins for either five Neil Quailand symbols or for five Albert Kolwaski symbols on an active payline. The biggest jackpots in Heist are somewhat smaller than those in some other Betsoft games featured at Free Slots. The minimum jackpot is 5 coins: you’ll receive that for spinning three keypad lock symbols or three stopwatch symbols.

Other ways to win

Even though the jackpots are relevant only to real-money players, Heist also comes with entertaining, animated bonus sequences, scatters, and a wild symbol.

  • The Glass Cutter Feature – triggered by three or more glass cutter symbols on any active payline; select one glass cutter for Quailand to use during the break-in and receive the prizes hidden underneath it – you can win free spins, instant access to the bonus round or free bonus credits.
  • Wild Reel with a X2 Multiplier – if the special C4 symbol lands in 2nd position on the center reel, a massive explosion will reveal a wild reel with a 2x multiplier feature. Anything you win on paylines involving the reel will be doubled. A wild reel lock may also occur, whereby the reel is randomly locked and stays on screen for another spin.
  • Scatter Drills – three or more scatter symbols (the drill) anywhere on the reels trigger the special scatter payout; you can win up to 10 coins for a maximum scatter spin of five drill symbols, and a minimum payment of two coins for three symbols.
  • The Bonus Round – this is the main event. Triggered by three or more vault symbols on any active payline, the bonus round transports you to a second screen, where you have to select which method to use to break into the bank vault and then escape. This is a race against time as Detective Kolwaski could catch up with you at any moment! Needless to say, whatever you manage to get out of the vault is added to your winnings.

Music, audio and graphics

All in all, this is a high quality game in terms of audio and graphics, but it’s not Betsoft’s very best work (compare with Lost, for example). Tension-filled, atmospheric music plays throughout and gives the game a very serious tone. The 3D graphics are at their most impressive in the bonus round and other special features, but are not particularly striking on the reels themselves, in our opinion, when compared to some of the magic we’ve seen Betsoft create in other slot games.

The Last Word

Heist will perhaps appeal more to guys than to female slot fans. Eight out of ten.
